Therapy Groups in Ontario
One of the hardest parts of recovery is the sense that nobody around you understands. Sitting with people who do, without having to explain, is a particular kind of relief.
Our groups are led by a clinician, not peer-run, and run alongside individual therapy or on their own.
Our Groups
Ask us what is currently scheduled and where, since groups start at different times across our clinics.
Trauma & PTSD Recovery
For people living with flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance and avoidance after a collision or other traumatic event.
Focused on understanding what trauma does to the nervous system and learning to settle it, rather than recounting events to the room.
Anxiety Management
Practical work on worry, panic, physical symptoms and avoidance, using cognitive behavioural approaches and skills you can apply immediately.
Includes the driving and travel anxiety that so often follows a collision.
Chronic Pain Management
For pain that has outlasted the original injury. Pacing, activity management, understanding why hurt does not always mean harm, and living alongside pain rather than waiting for it to end.
Run with input from both psychological and physiotherapy perspectives.
Grief & Loss
For bereavement, and for the other losses a serious injury brings: work, independence, physical capability, and the person you were before.
A space where that does not have to be minimized or explained.
Restful Nights: CBT-I for Insomnia
Broken sleep drives pain, low mood and poor concentration, and is one of the most common complaints after a collision.
Our Restful Nights programme uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, known as CBT-I, which is the recommended first-line treatment for chronic insomnia and works considerably better than sleep hygiene advice alone.
Mindfulness & Stress Reduction
Structured training in attention and stress regulation, for people whose nervous systems have been running at full alert for months.
No prior experience needed, and nothing about it requires belief in anything.
Restorative & Trauma-Informed Yoga
Not a group, but worth knowing about if a group does not appeal. Gentle restorative, somatic, and trauma-informed yoga led by a Registered Social Worker, delivered virtually one to one. Your children, partner, or other family members are welcome to join the session if you would like them to. It is also offered in person at community locations in St. Catharines, so please contact us to hear about upcoming sessions.
Trauma is held in the body as well as the mind, and this is a way of working with that directly. Everything is adaptable to a chair or the floor, nothing is demanded of you, and you can keep your camera off.
Caregiver & Family Support
For partners, parents and family members caring for someone injured. Caregiving is exhausting and largely invisible, and resentment and guilt commonly sit alongside love.
Your own difficulties matter here, not only as they affect the person you care for.
Teen Group
For teenagers dealing with the aftermath of a collision, where being in a room with adults would feel impossible.
Age-appropriate, and structured so nobody is put on the spot.
What to Expect
Most people are apprehensive about groups. Knowing the format helps.
