About Us

Our Approach to Trauma & Accident Recovery

Recovery after a collision tends to stall for the same few reasons. Progress often goes unmeasured, so nobody can say clearly whether treatment is working. Assessment and treatment sit with separate providers who rarely have the chance to speak. And the person who is injured is left holding the coordination and the paperwork at the point when they have least capacity for either.

We built this practice to address those gaps. What follows is how we do it.

Ages 4–94
Children through to older adults
Coordinated Care
Counselling, physiotherapy and nutrition together
Court-Recognized
Founder deemed an Expert Witness in Occupational Therapy
Clinician supporting a client through recovery after a motor vehicle accident
What We Believe

Ten Things We Hold To

Not aspirations. These are the operating rules of the practice.

We Measure Instead of Assuming

We measure sleep, driving anxiety, movement, strength, balance and cognition with FDA-cleared medical devices and standardized instruments, then compare the results against normative data.

Measurement means treatment targets the real problem, progress toward recovery is demonstrated rather than hoped for, and what you are living with is documented rather than doubted.

We Assess and We Treat

Most providers do one or the other. Assessment firms hand the file back; treatment clinics rarely assess in depth.

Doing both means we document your impairment from the start and across months of care, and the people who assessed you are the people who treat you. Where an independent opinion is required, assessment is conducted separately from the treating team.

Coordinated, Not Merged

Each discipline prepares its own treatment plan, as it must. If you see us for more than one service, those plans are written with an awareness of each other. Your clinicians can also speak about your recovery with your consent, so the pieces work together rather than at cross purposes. If you have providers elsewhere, we are glad to coordinate with them instead.

Pain, mood and nutrition are not separate problems, and treating them as though they were is why people plateau.

Matched, Not Assigned

You are matched to a clinician suited to what you are actually dealing with, rather than whoever has the next free slot.

With more than thirty modalities across the team, the approach can fit you. If you ever feel a different approach or clinician might suit you better, just let us know and we’ll arrange it, with no explanation needed.

You Should Not Be Chasing Paperwork

We complete and submit your treatment plans and track your insurer’s response deadlines. We also prepare progress reports and respond in writing where treatment is denied.

Income support matters just as much, so we prepare the supporting documentation for Ontario Works, ODSP and CPP Disability here too. That way, benefit coverage isn’t lost to unfinished forms.

There is a good deal more that people do not realise we can help with:

  • Employment Insurance sickness benefit certificates
  • Disability insurance forms from your employer’s plan
  • Disability Tax Credit certification
  • ODSP special diet allowance forms
  • Assistive Devices Program authorisations
  • Letters supporting school or college accommodations

Where a form requires a prescriber’s signature, we will let you know whether we are able to complete it.

We Start Before Funding Where We Can

Your insurer has ten business days to answer a funding request. That is a long time when you are in pain, cannot sleep or work, or need help to stay safe.

On a case-by-case basis we may begin treatment before funding is confirmed. It is a decision we make deliberately and individually, so it is always worth asking.

We Go Where You Are

We believe recovery should not depend on where you live. Four clinics, in-home and in-community appointments across the Greater Toronto Area and Southern Ontario, and virtual sessions anywhere in the province.

Where travel is the obstacle we can arrange transportation. We provide on-demand medical interpretation in over 300 languages at no additional cost to the client, and all four clinics are wheelchair accessible.

We also attend at the bedside for people still in hospital, so support can begin before discharge rather than after it.

Ages Four and Up

Children from age four in Grimsby and St. Catharines, from age five in Oakville, from age ten in Kitchener, dietitian services from age six, and adults of every age including older clients.

Collisions affect whole families, and we can work with the family rather than only the person with the injury. That includes couples and marital counselling. Injury, and the strain that follows it, often puts real pressure on a relationship.

Expertise That Has Been Tested

Our founder is an Occupational Therapist with more than twenty years in the motor vehicle accident sector, on both the insurer and plaintiff sides. That experience led to being deemed an Expert Witness in Occupational Therapy by the Ontario courts.

We developed three of our assessments in-house, they hold copyright protection, and no other provider in Ontario offers them.

We are a member organization of the West Toronto Ontario Health Team and the Mississauga Ontario Health Team, and provide counselling services under Urgent Response Services.

Your Recovery Continues While It Is Needed

We reassess at intervals using the same measures, so treatment changes when it needs to instead of continuing out of habit.

We will also tell you honestly when we think you no longer need us. Ending treatment well is part of doing it properly.

In Practice

What Recovery Looks Like for You

How those principles show up in the experience of being a client here.

Your first contact

We take the time to understand what has been happening and what you are hoping for, and we explain which assessment or service is the right fit.

We also complete the paperwork required to request funding from your insurer, and confirm your coverage before anything is booked. You will know what is happening and what it will cost before you commit.

Being assessed

Assessment can feel like being examined, particularly if you have already had the sense of being doubted. We explain each part before it starts, you set the pace, you can take breaks, and you can bring someone with you.

Nothing we do is invasive or painful. You may decline any part of it.

Being treated

Treatment follows directly from the assessment findings rather than from a standard protocol. Where more than one discipline is involved, each prepares its own treatment plan, and those plans are coordinated with one another.

We re-measure at intervals so you can see change on the days it does not feel like there has been any.

If something is not working

Tell us. Therapy that is not helping should be changed, not persevered with. And a clinician who is not the right fit for you is not a personal failing on anyone’s part.

Because we are a clinic rather than a sole practitioner, there is somewhere to raise a concern other than the person treating you. And if your clinician is away, there is always someone to cover, so your care carries on uninterrupted.

When treatment ends

When treatment comes to an end, we reassess, talk through what has improved, and give you a clear plan for maintaining it. If there are situations where symptoms tend to resurface, we tell you what to look out for and what to do about it.

And the door stays open. Recovery is rarely a straight line, so if things change later, you can pick up where you left off rather than beginning again.
